LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending WFXV/FOX 33 upon the occasion of cele-
brating its 25th Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious networks which have worked diligently and consistent-
ly, year after year, to bring quality programming to their communities
as well as local news and news of the larger world to their viewers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
WFXV/FOX 33 upon the occasion of celebrating its 25th Anniversary, to be
celebrated on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the Radisson Hotel Ballroom,
Utica, New York; and
WHEREAS, Originally WTUV, the network was owned by Mohawk Valley
Broadcasting; it eventually became a Fox affiliate, and in 1990, changed
its call letters to channel WFXV; on October 9,1986, the Late Show with
Joan Rivers became the first and only program to run on the FOX network;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout its broadcasting history, WFXV/FOX 33 has aired
many well-liked programs including, NFL, NASCAR, MLB, Married with Chil-
dren, The Simpsons, Xmen, Beverly Hills 90210, American Idol, Bones,
House, and Glee; and
WHEREAS, Today, WFXV/FOX 33, acquired by Nexstar Broadcasting in late
2003, with its numerous, popular television programs, has been the
number one network in prime time for seven consecutive years; and
WHEREAS, For over two decades, WFXV/FOX 33 has supported the Utica
community through its role in the Relay for Life, America's Greatest
Heart Run and Walk, the Utica Music and Arts Festival, the Great Ameri-
can Irish Festival, the National Start Walking Day, and AIDS Walk; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this civic-minded station provides internship
opportunities to students from Herkimer County Community College, Mohawk
Valley Community College, Utica College, and the State University of New
York Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor those
businesses within the State of New York which distinguish themselves
through outstanding professional behavior, corporate innovation, and
enduring commitment to the community; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend WFXV/FOX 33 upon the occasion of celebrating its 25th Anniver-
sary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to WFXV/FOX 33, Utica, New York.
