LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Stuart Steiner upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the inaugural Genesee County Lifetime
Achievement Award by the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Stuart
Steiner upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the inau-
gural Genesee County Lifetime Achievement Award by the Genesee County
Chamber of Commerce, to be celebrated at its Awards Dinner on Saturday,
April 9, 2011, at the Clarion Hotel in Batavia, New York; and
WHEREAS, This special event is to also celebrate the Chamber's 39th
Annual Awards Ceremony; and
WHEREAS, Since 1975, Dr. Stuart Steiner has served as President of
Genesee Community College; he came to Genesee Community College in 1967
as dean of students, and from 1968 until 1975 he was dean of
instruction/executive dean; his 36-year tenure as president of the
college is the second longest in the country; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stuart Steiner's involvement in the community includes
membership on numerous boards, including: president of Genesee County
United Way; a member of the boards of Villa Maria College in Buffalo,
St. Jerome Hospital and United Memorial Medical Center; president of
the Association of Presidents of Public Community Colleges; and chairman
of the State University Chancellor's Task Force on Community Colleges;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stuart Steiner has been published in several books and
publications relating to education; he said Genesee Community College
started with 378 full-time students, where its first class graduated
with 78 students; this number compares to a record 800 students who
graduated in 2010; and
WHEREAS, A historic icon and true asset to society, Dr. Stuart
Steiner's distinguished record merits the recognition and respectful
tribute of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, he it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Stuart Steiner upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the inaugural Genesee County Lifetime Achievement Award by the
Genesee County Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Stuart Steiner.
