LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sterling Tents & Awnings, Inc. upon the
occasion of receiving the Business of the Year Award from the Genesee
County Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those businesses throughout the State of New York which have
substantially contributed to the economic vitality of their communities;
and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sterling Tents
& Awnings, Inc. upon the occasion of receiving the Business of the Year
Award from the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce, to be celebrated at
its Awards Dinner on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the Clarion Hotel in
Batavia, New York; and
WHEREAS, This special event is to also celebrate the Chamber's 39th
Annual Awards Ceremony; and
WHEREAS, Sterling Tents & Awnings, Inc. was founded in 1911 marking
its 100th anniversary; the business is owned by Ronald Weiler, who began
working for the company as a teenager in the late 1950s; and
WHEREAS, A member of the New York State Jaycee Senate, Ronald Weiler
is married to Sandra Sterling Weiler whose grandfather founded Sterling
Tents & Awnings, Inc.; Ronald purchased the organization in 1979; and
WHEREAS, A year-round operation, Sterling Tents & Awnings, Inc. has
its peak season during the summer where Ronald Weiler generally hires
between 25 to 30 young people; over the years, it is estimated that he
has hired more than 3,500 summer employees; and
WHEREAS, A historic icon, Sterling Tents & Awnings, Inc. provides
outstanding services to the Batavia community and is well-deserving of
public recognition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sterling Tents & Awnings, Inc. upon the occasion of its desig-
nation as recipient of the Business of the Year Award by the Genesee
County Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ronald and Sandra Weiler.
