LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Anthony DeTomaso, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Anthony DeTomaso of Auburn, New York died on Friday, February
11, 2011, at the age of 86; and
WHEREAS, A United States Army Veteran of World War II and a member of
the 299th Combat Engineers, Anthony DeTomaso's battalion was in the
first wave that landed on the beaches of Normandy during the D-Day inva-
sion of Europe; he was instrumental in perpetuating the memory of that
heroic operation by organizing a reunion of the 299th on the 6th of
June, for the past several years; and
WHEREAS, Anthony DeTomaso distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, After his retirement from the Columbian Rope Company, Anthony
DeTomaso was employed at Dunn and McCarthy Shoe Company and Mercy Reha-
bilitation Center; and
WHEREAS, Anthony DeTomaso's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, A lifetime resident of Auburn, Anthony DeTomaso was a commun-
icant of St. Francis Church where he volunteered for many of the church
activities; he was a member of the Carnicelli-Indelicato Post 1776 of
the American Legion, St. Francis Church Sports Hall of Fame, an avid
bowler and a member of the 700 Club, and was recognized as the Military
Man of the Year by the Italian Heritage Society; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his loving wife, Elizabeth DeTomaso, his
parents, Domenic and Maria Nanna DeTomaso, and brother, William DeToma-
so; Anthony DeTomaso is survived by four sons, Domenic (Joanne), William
(Judy), Anthony (Pamela), and Edward (Melody); one daughter, Laura Cush-
ing; one brother, Angelo (Barbara); and nine grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Anthony DeTomaso leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Anthony DeTomaso, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Anthony DeTomaso.
