LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Victor High School FIRST
Robotics Team on winning the 2011 Rah Cha Cha Ruckus Robotics Competi-
tion

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth of
today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements exem-
plify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and nation;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize
and commend the Victor High School FIRST Robotics Team on winning the
2011 Rah Cha Cha Ruckus Robotics Competition; and
WHEREAS, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Tech-
nology) is a multinational non-profit organization dedicated to trans-
forming culture, making science, math, engineering, and technology as
appealing to young people as sports are; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway Human
Transporter, FIRST operates several competitions, including the FIRST
Robotics Competition in which teams of high school students, sponsored
and assisted by local companies and volunteers, design, assemble, and
test a robot capable of performing a specified task in competition with
other teams; and
WHEREAS, The FIRST Robotics Competition is an exciting, multinational
competition which teams professionals and young people to solve an engi-
neering design problem in an intense and competitive way; the program is
often a life-changing, career-molding experience, and is always a lot of
fun for both participants and spectators; and
WHEREAS, In addition to encouraging professionalism and sportsmanship,
the FIRST Robotics Competition shows students that technological fields
hold many opportunities and that the basic concepts of science, math,
engineering, and invention are both exciting and interesting; and
WHEREAS, The outstanding members of the Victor High School FIRST
Robotics Team were Tom Allen, Nathan Ciaio, Rob Carrier, James Dempsey,
Sam DiPoala, Alex Double, Ford Filer, Jay Fleckenstein, Gabe Guidarelli,
Colin Lemen, Mack O'Brian, Sean Raia, Scott Swigart, Alex Thomas, Brett
Tuttle, Brendan Miles, Brendan Jacobs, Gus Albers, Chris Frutchey,
Andrei Gutierrez, Emily Guidarelli, Michael Gydesen, Connor Hyser, Tommy
Nguyen, Kai Schmidt, David Seelman, Tony Wilcox, Noah Anders, Colin
Davidson, Westley Davies, Teddy Franceschi, Kyran Houck, David Johnston,
Alayna Murphy, John Null, Alex Raia, Ricky Randall, Kristy Schantz, Ben
Sentiff, Russell Henderson, Trey Butler, Eleni Fleckenstein, Greer
Henry, Caroline Rochford, Molly Rochford, Jeremey Weed, and Sam Zhou;
and
WHEREAS, The students were ably guided by Technology Education Teacher
Peter Fleckenstein, who is in his 13th year teaching in the Victor
Central School District, and dedicated mentors Amy Hyser, Andy Kinsman,
Brent Weicht, Chris Hyser, Dave Avery, Dave Henderson, Gene Petilli,
Jeff Myers, Jim Behrens, Dr. Joe DiPoala, Joe Murphy, Josh Dennstedt,
Julie Nelson, Lang Butler, Marilee Montanaro, Mark Gydesen, Melissa
Gydesen, Rick Schantz and Rita Cronise; and
WHEREAS, The competitions are high-tech spectator sporting events, the
result of much focused brainstorming, real-world teamwork, dedicated
mentoring, project timelines, and deadlines; and
WHEREAS, The Victor High School FIRST Robotics Team, Team 1559,
participated in the 2011 Rah Cha Cha Ruckus, a Rochester-based robotics
competition, finishing the competition as the number one seed out of 24
teams from New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Canada; and

WHEREAS, Spectators cheered as alliances of three teams competed
against each other, their robots hanging inflatable tubes on pegs of
different heights and participating in a Mini-Bot Race; and
WHEREAS, The Victor High School team went on to form an alliance with
Team 610 (Toronto) and Team 578 (Fairport) for the elimination rounds;
and
WHEREAS, The finals drive team orchestrated an impressive series of
wins, including a dramatic win over the Webster Alliance, and the Victor
Alliance went on to win the finals, two matches to zero, proving the
Victor Alliance members to be an unbeatable combination of talents,
reflecting favorably on their schools and communities; and
WHEREAS, The Victor High School FIRST Robotics Team members have
clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of their school; this Legislative Body is pleased to honor
these young men and women, recognizing the value of their labors and the
promise of their futures; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Victor High School FIRST Robotics Team on winning the
2011 Rah Cha Cha Ruckus Robotics Competition; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Victor Senior High School FIRST Robotics Team members and
to their much appreciated mentors.
