LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Liz Bishop-Goldsmith upon the occasion
of her designation for special recognition by the Rochdale Village Board
of Directors

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Liz Bishop-
Goldsmith upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition
by the Rochdale Village Board of Directors, to be celebrated at its
Women's History Month Program on March 31, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Raised in a small rural farm town on the Lower Eastern Shore
of Maryland, Liz Bishop-Goldsmith married and moved to Bay Ridge Brook-
lyn in 1970; she serves as the Human Resources Director at Rochdale
Village where she has been employed for 34 years; and
WHEREAS, Liz Bishop-Goldsmith is Founder/President of Mothers Against
Guns, Inc.; a nonprofit 501 c3 anti-gun violence organization comprised
of not only mothers, but fathers, sons, etc., that share a commitment to
finding solutions to ending gun violence; and
WHEREAS, An advocate for common sense gun laws, Liz Bishop-Goldsmith
founded the non-partisan organization in 1994 after the second one of
her two godsons was shot and killed; although she was deeply affected by
the murder of her first godson in 1988, she knew something had to be
done once gun violence had taken another loved one six years later; and
WHEREAS, A registered apartment manager, Liz Bishop-Goldsmith studied
Business Administration at Howard University; she is affiliated with the
American Management Association, the National Association of Female
Executives, the National Society of Human Resource Management, National
Association of Home Builders, and she is a member of St. Matthews AME
Church in Hollis; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Jasper, and their
three sons, as well as their six grandchildren, all of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Liz Bishop-Goldsmith's distinguished record merits the recog-
nition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Liz Bishop-Goldsmith upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the Rochdale Village Board of Directors; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Liz Bishop-Goldsmith.
