LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of DeSales
Regional Catholic High School

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of commitment and high achievement whose
purpose and endeavors prove a dedication to the pursuit of excellence in
the education of the youth of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of DeSales Regional Catholic High School;
and
WHEREAS, Under the illustrious direction of Principal Gerald Macaluso,
DeSales is a Roman Catholic high school of the Diocese of Rochester
which has long been an institution of learning in Geneva, New York,
providing students with a faith-inspired education based on excellence
in soul, safety, scholastics and sports; and
WHEREAS, This prominent school originated in 1912 as an extension of
St. Francis DeSales Elementary School, and then moved to its present
site on Pulteney Street in 1930; it was originally staffed by the
priests of St. Francis DeSales and St. Stephen's Churches along with
the Sisters of St. Joseph; and
WHEREAS, The uniqueness of DeSales Regional Catholic High School stems
from its size and the academic achievement of the student body who are
required to perform 20 hours of community service per school year; the
school strives to produce a graduate who is intellectually inspired,
confident and well-rounded; and
WHEREAS, This 2011-2012 school year marks DeSales Regional Catholic
High School's 100 years of playing a significant role in the lives of
its students, striving to ensure a Catholic education is a valuable
opportunity for future generations in the Finger Lakes; and
WHEREAS, The steadfast and unyielding commitment of parents, educators
and administrators to provide the highest quality of education for
students has become the hallmark and tradition of DeSales Regional
Catholic High School; and
WHEREAS, Within the 21st Century, DeSales Regional Catholic High
School stands prepared to reach out, in earnest and enthusiastic quest
of its mission, to promote the maximum growth of every student, estab-
lishing standards and building skills which will carry its students and
the citizens of its community into the future; and
WHEREAS, DeSales Regional Catholic High School is proudly aware of its
distinguished past, eager to fulfill its present commitment to parents,
students and the community, and planning with vision and purpose for the
ebb and swell of growth and change it will encounter in the years to
come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of DeSales Regional Catholic High
School; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Principal Gerald Macaluso, DeSales Regional Catholic High
School, 90 Pulteney Street, Geneva, New York 14456.
