LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Phyllis and Donald Aldinger upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of the Community Service
Award by North Utica Senior Citizens Community Center

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Phyllis and Donald Aldinger have given not only of their time
and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership
and consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Phyllis and
Donald Aldinger upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of
the Community Service Award by the North Utica Senior Citizen Community
Center on March 12, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Phyllis and Donald Aldinger have been called upon to contrib-
ute their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors
and have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Born in Sauquoit, New York, Phyllis Aldinger graduated from
Sauquoit Valley Central School and later earned her New York State
Beautician's License from the Utica School of Beauty Culture; she went
on to own and operate her own beauty salon for 27 years, retiring in
2003; and
WHEREAS, Born in Chadwicks, New York, Donald Aldinger graduated from
Chadwicks High School and later earned an associate degree in mechanical
technology from Mohawk Valley Technical Institute; he first worked as a
draftsman and later became an engineer for many years before retiring
from the Sauquoit Valley School District in 2005; and
WHEREAS, Celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in July of 2010,
Phyllis and Donald Aldinger are active in their community; they have
served the community in many different ways; when their children were
young, they were actively involved in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Minor
League Baseball, and the PTO; and
WHEREAS, Donald and Phyllis Aldinger have always been active members
in their church; they have served on many boards throughout their 40
years of membership, and have worked on and chaired many church dinners;
they still sing in the church choir; and
WHEREAS, The most rewarding charitable work Phyllis Aldinger has been
involved with is the formation and growth of The Sauguoit Valley Friends
and Neighbors (SVFN); the program was founded and spearheaded by Phyl-
lis' mentor, Esther Gehringer, in the early 1980s; and
WHEREAS, SVFN provides a multitude of services for families in need;
they give out school supplies at the beginning of each school year,
provide food at Thanksgiving and offer gifts and food during the Christ-
mas season; the Aldingers are proud volunteers of this great organiza-
tion; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Phyllis and Donald Aldinger have
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their children, Daniel, Linda,
and David, and their nine grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to
be a part of their lives and rejoice in their achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Phyllis and Donald Aldinger have
displayed throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Phyllis and Donald Aldinger upon the occasion of their designation

as recipients of the Community Service Award by North Utica Senior Citi-
zens Community Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Phyllis and Donald Aldinger.
