LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Chief Robert J. Kwiatkowski upon the
occasion of his retirement from the Woodbury Police Department

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Chief Robert
J. Kwiatkowski upon the occasion of his retirement from the Woodbury
Police Department; he will officially retire on July 1, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Central Valley, Robert J. Kwiatkowski
attended the Monroe-Woodbury School District and graduated in June 1966;
and
WHEREAS, Later that summer, Robert J. Kwiatkowski enlisted in the
United States Army, honorably serving his country during two tours in
Vietnam-Indochina, rising to the rank of Captain; and
WHEREAS, Robert J. Kwiatkowski received many honorable medals for his
service to his country including National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam
Service Medal, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/dev 60, the
Bronze Star Medal, and the Purple Heart; and
WHEREAS, Upon returning home, Robert J. Kwiatkowski became a Police
Officer with the Town of Woodbury Police Department on January 10, 1974;
and
WHEREAS, Robert J. Kwiatkowski was promoted to Sergeant in August of
1986, and rose to the rank of Chief of Police in April of 2000; and
WHEREAS, Chief Robert J. Kwiatkowski hired many officers and dispatch-
ers, and promoted many Investigators, Sergeants and Lieutenants; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Chief Robert J. Kwiatkowski led the department
into the 21st Century with new computer technology and many modern law
enforcement advancements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chief Robert J. Kwiatkowski upon the occasion of his retirement
from the Woodbury Police Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chief Robert J. Kwiatkowski.
