LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Shirley Rodriguez Remeneski upon the
occasion of her retirement as President of 100 Hispanic Women, Inc.
after 16 years of dedicated service

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Shirley Rodriguez Remeneski upon the occasion of her retirement as Pres-
ident of 100 Hispanic Women, Inc. after 16 years of dedicated service;
and
WHEREAS, 100 Hispanic Women, Inc. is an organization Shirley Rodriguez
Remeneski founded in 1996, composed of dynamic and professional women,
committed to empowering Latinas in various fields; and
WHEREAS, In 2002, 100 Hispanic Women, Inc. launched the Young Latinas
Leadership Institute (YLLI), a four-year scholarship program sponsored
by CUNY; this past January, YLLI graduated its third class of scholars
and inducted five new Latinas to the program, now boasting 30 students;
and
WHEREAS, Shirley Rodriguez Remeneski's most recent achievement was her
vision for, and heavy involvement with, the establishment of the Bronx
Global Leadership Institute for Girls (BGLIG), an all girl, dual-lan-
guage charter school located at 750 Concourse Village West in the South
Bronx which opened September 2008; and
WHEREAS, Her experience as chair of the Board of Directors and founder
of BGLIG attests for her drive and arduous commitment to her community;
and
WHEREAS, Shirley Rodriguez Remeneski has spent the majority of her
career involved in government and the non-profit world and has held
leadership positions since the launch of her career in 1996; and
WHEREAS, She currently serves as Senior Vice President at the Empire
State Development Corporation's Economic Revitalization Division, where
she was appointed in January 2002; and
WHEREAS, Prior to her position at Empire State Development Corp.,
Shirley Rodriguez Remenski was Deputy Commissioner and Equal Employment
Opportunity (EEO) Officer for the NYC Department of Housing Preservation
and Development; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this remarkable woman has been involved in
numerous other professional and civic organizations; and
WHEREAS, For the past 16 years, Shirley Rodriguez Remeneski rendered
faithful, conscientious and valuable service to 100 Hispanic Women,
Inc.; throughout her leadership she has served with loyalty, honor and
distinction; and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Shirley Rodriguez Remeneski was
governed by a keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of
human problems; she has truly earned the admiration, esteem and
affection of her colleagues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Shirley Rodriguez Remeneski upon the occasion of her retirement as
President of 100 Hispanic Women, Inc. after 16 years of dedicated
service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution suitably engrossed, be trans-
mitted to Shirley Rodriguez Remeneski.
