LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Daniel Lennon of Peru Central
School upon the occasion of his outstanding athletic accomplishments

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in honoring talented high
school athletes who distinguish themselves and their community through
outstanding athletic performance; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to
congratulate Daniel Lennon of Peru Central School upon the occasion of
his outstanding athletic accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Peru Central School, Daniel Lennon has won 10
sectional titles in his track/cross country scholastic career; he is a
two-time CVAC All-Star in cross country and a two-time New York State
first team All-Star; he holds the Peru Central School record for both
the 1600 and 3200, and is the Section 7 record holder in the 3200; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Lennon placed 2nd in the New York State Class B Cham-
pionship two mile race in 2012; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Lennon was the New York State Class B Champion in
cross country in 2011 and the runner-up in 2010; he was a six-time New
York State medalist in track/cross country in 2011-12; and
WHEREAS, A Footlocker Finalist who placed 21st at the Nationals in San
Diego, California in 2012, Daniel Lennon was the 2012 National Champion
at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in New York City in 2012; he was the
runner-up in 2011 at the New Balance Indoor Nationals emerging elite two
mile race in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Lennon finished in 16th place in Greensboro, North
Carolina, at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals elite two-mile race, and
was named an All-American while finishing fourth in the 2012 New Balance
Indoor Nationals; in addition, he was the champion in the elite five
kilometers race at the New Balance Indoor Nationals; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Lennon's time of 14:37 in the 5K race at the New
Balance Indoor National in 2012 was the fifth fastest 5K high school
time in history; and
WHEREAS, A New York State Scholar Athlete in 2011, Daniel Lennon won
the NYPHSSA sportsmanship award in both 2011 (cross country) and 2012
(indoor); he was also invited to compete in the U.S. Open at Madison
Square Garden and the U.S. Junior Nationals in St. Louis; and
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice; Daniel Lennon's dedication to track and
field is a year-round, everyday commitment; he is highly focused and has
developed a matchless work ethic; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Lennon's exemplary performance is reflective of his
dedication, determination and personal commitment; his achievements
stand as a hallmark of what is best in the families, schools and commu-
nities across New York State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Daniel Lennon of Peru Central School upon the occasion of
his outstanding athletic accomplishments, and to commend him for the
enduring honor he has brought to his family, his school and his communi-
ty; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Daniel Lennon.
