LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Father Kevin Tortorelli, O.F.M. for
his many years of devoted service in the Priesthood

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Father Kevin
Tortorelli, O.F.M. for his many years of devoted service in the Priest-
hood, to be celebrated at an event on Saturday, September 8, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Father Kevin Tortorelli attended Siena College from
1966-1970; he then attended St. John's Seminary in Brighton, Massachu-
setts, from 1970-1971, followed by Holy Name College in Washington, D.C.
from 1971-1973; and
WHEREAS, Ordained to the Priesthood on September 22, 1973, Father
Kevin Tortorelli's first assignment was at St. Francis of Assisi Church
as the parochial vicar with additional responsibilities for the Adult
Education program; and
WHEREAS, From 1975-1976, Father Kevin Tortorelli served as Assistant
Director of Franciscan College Formation Program at Siena College, and
taught part-time in its Religious Studies Department; and
WHEREAS, Father Kevin Tortorelli went on to further his graduate
studies at Boston College in 1976; he attended St. Edmund's College in
Cambridge, UK, as a visiting scholar for one year before returning to
Boston College to conduct his research; and
WHEREAS, In 1982, Father Kevin Tortorelli returned to Siena College as
a resident priest; he taught in the college's Religious Studies Depart-
ment and in its Classics Department for 10 years; he still has very
close ties with the college today; and
WHEREAS, In 1992, Father Kevin Tortorelli became a member of the
campus ministry at the University of Georgia; two years later, he moved
his ministry to St. Francis Chapel in Providence, Rhode Island, as a
chapel staff with responsibilities for Adult Education; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Father Kevin Tortorelli is the parochial vicar of
St. Francis of Assisi Church in midtown Manhattan, with additional
responsibilities for Adult Education and Cardinal Bernadin Series for
Clergy; and
WHEREAS, Father Kevin Tortorelli has brought to his ministry an over-
whelming spirit of charity and compassion, acting from vision and
enlightenment in conducting his administrative and spiritual duties,
while always displaying the highest standards of personal and profes-
sional integrity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given enlightenment,
guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and has adminis-
tered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal needs of
all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Father Kevin Tortorelli, O.F.M. for his many years of devoted
service in the Priesthood, noting his unremitting and compassionate

faith and his exemplary service to God, man, and his community, and
extending to him the heartfelt best wishes of this Legislative Body for
a future of purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Father Kevin Tortorelli.
