LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Carole J. Wolf upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2011 Seeberger Citizenship Award from
the Dutchess ARC Foundation

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Carole J. Wolf has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Carole J. Wolf
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2011 Seeberger
Citizenship Award from the Dutchess ARC Foundation, to be celebrated on
Saturday, January 22, 2011, at the ARC Foundation Annual Snow Ball; and
WHEREAS, Carole Wolf is being honored in memory of another Dutchess
County visionary, Catherine "Kay" Seeberger; in the late 1950s, Kay
Seeberger, a teacher and lifelong resident, joined with a dedicated
group of special education teachers and parents concerned for their
children; these visionaries challenged society's traditional disregard
for children with developmental disabilities, taking steps toward the
creation of Dutchess ARC; and
WHEREAS, Carole Wolf is Founder and Executive Director of Mill Street
Loft; she holds a Master's degree in Art Education and taught art at
Dutchess Community College and a local high school for over 25 years; in
addition, she is a frequent presenter at national, state and regional
conferences and has served on the boards of several not-for-profit
organizations, including the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of
Commerce, and is currently on their Education Committee; and
WHEREAS, Carole Wolf is an artist by trade, an educator by training,
and is dedicated to using the arts to respond to and improve community;
in 1981, she rented a studio in the former Bond Factory building on Mill
Street in Poughkeepsie, and shortly thereafter created the Dutchess Arts
Camp, which served 19 campers in 1982 and currently offers imaginative
programming with professional artist educators to more than 1,000 chil-
dren each summer; and
WHEREAS, The Mill Street Loft has grown under Carole Wolf's direction
and has moved to its renovated headquarters at 45 Pershing Avenue in
Poughkeepsie; throughout its history, the Mill Street Loft has collab-
orated with other area organizations and offered intergenerational and
arts-in-education programs; and
WHEREAS, A major award-winning Dutchess County arts organization, Mill
Street Loft's underlying philosophy is to create, develop and implement
programs that build self-esteem while learning through the arts; and
WHEREAS, In 1994, Mill Street Loft created the first of its Outreach
Programs that serve economically disadvantaged youth in the Cities of
Poughkeepsie and Beacon; the organization also launched its Arts for
Healing partnership program with the Vassar Brothers Medical Center in
2007, demonstrating another powerful example of how arts change lives;
this particular program serves children with acute and chronic diseases
and their families; and
WHEREAS, Recognition of Carole Wolf's professional and community
efforts include: the Dutchess Community College Recognition Award for 25
years of teaching; the Poughkeepsie Rotary Club Service Above Self
Award; the Community Service Award from the Dutchess County Regional
Chamber of Commerce; a New York State Senate Citation; a Certificate of
Special Congressional Recognition from the United States House of Repre-
sentatives; a Certificate of Merit from the New York State Assembly; the

Best of the Hudson Valley Social Activist Award; and a 2009 Dutchess
County Executive Arts Award for Arts in Education, to name a few; and
WHEREAS, Carole Wolf has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Carole Wolf has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Carole Wolf has displayed throughout
her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Carole J. Wolf upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the 2011 Seeberger Citizenship Award from the Dutchess ARC Founda-
tion; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Carole J. Wolf.
