LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Eleanor M. Herman, R.N. upon the occa-
sion of her designation by Saint Francis Hospital and Health Centers as
the recipient of a 2011 Franciscan Award on April 30, 2011
WHEREAS, Individuals who distinguish themselves in their profession and
in service to their community are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Eleanor M. Herman, R.N. has given not only of her time and
energies but also of her competence, intelligence, and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Eleanor M.
Herman, R.N. upon the occasion of her designation by Saint Francis
Hospital and Health Centers as the recipient of a 2011 Franciscan Award;
and
WHEREAS, The Franciscan Award is the highest award bestowed by Saint
Francis Hospital and Health Centers of Poughkeepsie, New York; it is
given to individuals whose lives have mirrored the spirit of selfless
giving exemplified by Saint Francis of Assisi and whose unwavering dedi-
cation and service enhance the quality of life in the Hudson Valley; and
WHEREAS, Eleanor "Ellie" Herman will be presented with this most pres-
tigious award at the 30th Annual Franciscan Award Gala to be held at The
Grandview in Poughkeepsie on Saturday, April 30, 2011; and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, Eleanor Herman has been
called upon to contribute her time and talents to countless endeavors
and has always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A 1954 graduate of the Saint Francis Hospital School of Nurs-
ing, Eleanor Herman first became part of Saint Francis as a Nurse's Aide
when she was 14 years old; and
WHEREAS, For 27 years, Eleanor Herman worked in the Poughkeepsie City
School District as a caring and dedicated School Nurse Teacher; and
WHEREAS, A mother of three and grandmother of three, Ellie Herman
continues to be an integral part of the Saint Francis community where
she is an active member, and former Co-president, of the Saint Francis
Hospital Auxiliary; and
WHEREAS, Continuing to give back to the hospital, Eleanor Herman is a
member of the Saint Francis Hospital Mair Legacy Society, a society
honoring those who help to provide for the future of the hospital
through their estate plans; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others as that demonstrated by Eleanor M. Herman;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend them for the
edification and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Eleanor M. Herman, R.N. upon the occasion of her designation by
Saint Francis Hospital and Health Centers as the recipient of a 2011
Franciscan Award on April 30, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Eleanor M. Herman, R.N.
