LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Robert Taub, Ph.D. upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the Collaborator Award by the Ameri-
can Cancer Society
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those individuals within the medical field who distinguish
themselves through professional excellence and who have made significant
contributions to the quality of life of citizens in the State of New
York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Robert Taub, Ph.D. upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Collaborator Award by the American Cancer Society at its Second
Annual Awards in Medical Excellence reception on Thursday, May 12, 2011,
at the Westin New York at Times Square in New York City; and
WHEREAS, A leader within the medical community, Dr. Robert Taub is
receiving this meritorious award for his significant contributions to
the fight against cancer; and
WHEREAS, Robert N. Taub, M.D., Ph.D. is the Vivian and Seymour
Milstein Family Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University's
Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons; and
WHEREAS, He also holds the esteemed position of Director of Columbia's
Mesothelioma Center, and is the Attending Oncologist of Columbia Univer-
sity Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert Taub is a medical oncologist and hematologist with
a special interest in the diagnosis, clinical care, and investigation of
patients with malignant mesothelioma and soft tissue sarcoma; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable doctor received a Bachelor of Arts degree
from Yeshiva University, in New York, and a medical degree from Yale
University, New Haven, Connecticut; and
WHEREAS, He then received a fellowship, training at New England
Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, and earned his Ph.D. degree
from London University in the United Kingdom; and
WHEREAS, Board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, Oncology,
and Allergy-Immunology, Dr. Robert Taub has served as: Assistant through
Associate Professor of Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New
York; Professor and Chairman of Medical Oncology, and American Cancer
Society Professor of Clinical Oncology, Medical College of Virginia,
Richmond; and Professor of Clinical Medicine and Co-Director, Columbia
University Comprehensive Cancer Center; and
WHEREAS, As a leader in his profession, Dr. Robert Taub has proven
himself to be a great asset to medicine and to the health and welfare of
the citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, He is a member of numerous committees and organizations,
including the American Society of Clinical Investigation, American Soci-
ety for Clinical Oncology, and Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Robert Taub has been
the recipient of awards from the Israel Cancer Research Fund and Mount
Sinai Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Under his luminous direction, the Columbia Mesothelioma
Center is developing unique new treatment algorithms utilizing intracav-
itary chemotherapy for multimodal treatment of abdominal mesothelioma
and for lung-sparing treatment of pleural mesothelioma; and
WHEREAS, Individuals such as Dr. Robert Taub, who have given so self-
lessly of their skills and dedication in performing vital medical
research to bring us closer to eradicating deadly diseases such as
cancer, are worthy and due the highest commendation for their contrib-
utions to all of humanity; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Robert Taub, Ph.D. upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Collaborator Award by the American Cancer Society; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Robert Taub, Ph.D.
