LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Alisan B. Goldfarb, FACS upon the
occasion of her designation as recipient of the Physician of Distinction
Award by the American Cancer Society

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those individuals within the medical field who distinguish
themselves through professional excellence and who have made significant
contributions to the quality of life of citizens in the State of New
York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Alisan B. Goldfarb upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Physician of Distinction Award by the American Cancer Society at its
Second Annual Awards in Medical Excellence reception on Thursday, May
12, 2011, at the Westin New York at Times Square in New York City; and
WHEREAS, A leader within the medical community, Dr. Alisan B. Goldfarb
is receiving this meritorious award for her significant contributions to
the fight against cancer; currently, she is the Attending Breast Surgeon
at Mount Sinai Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Alisan B. Goldfarb earned her undergraduate degree from
Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin; she returned to her native New
York, having grown up in Bayside, to attend Mount Sinai School of Medi-
cine; and
WHEREAS, In 1975, she was awarded her Doctor of Medicine degree and
continued on at Mount Sinai Medical Center for her residency in general
surgery; although beginning her practice as a general surgeon, her
interests and talents soon led her to an active practice limited to
breast surgery; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Alisan B. Goldfarb was instrumental in establishing
monthly multidisciplinary rounds in breast cancer at Mount Sinai, as
well as a resource group for patient education and psychosocial support
for breast cancer patients and their families; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding physician has contributed to textbooks,
teaching tapes and journal articles; as an assistant clinical professor
at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, she lectures to medical students and
is involved in surgical residency training; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Alisan B. Goldfarb is a past president of the New York
Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group and is a member of numerous other
professional organizations; furthermore, she is a Fellow of the American
College of Surgeons; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Alisan B. Goldfarb has proven herself to be a great asset
to medicine and to the health and welfare of the citizens of the State
of New York; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout has been her loving son, Andrew, who
feels privileged to be a part of her life and rejoices in her achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Alisan B. Goldfarb, FACS upon the occasion of her designation
as recipient of the Physician of Distinction Award by the American
Cancer Society; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Alisan B. Goldfarb.
