LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Otsego
Sailing Club on July 2, 2011
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative  Body  to  recognize  those
special  groups within the Empire State that provide recreational oppor-
tunities for residents and which have become an important  part  of  the
history of our State; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  commem-
orate  the 50th Anniversary of the Otsego Sailing Club, to be celebrated
on Saturday, July 2, 2011; and
  WHEREAS, This year marks the 50th anniversary of  the  Otsego  Sailing
Club,  located  in Central New York State on the western shore of Otsego
Lake, two miles north of the village of Cooperstown; and
  WHEREAS, The Otsego Sailing Club is a non-profit organization of sail-
boat owners who have mutual interests in sailing and sailboat racing; it
was founded to encourage recreation and competitive sailing, to  promote
safety  in  sailing  and  all associated activities, and to promote good
sportsmanship; and
  WHEREAS, The Otsego Sailing  Club  was  originally  organized  in  the
summer  of  1961,  by  five families who sailed together on Otsego Lake;
that fall they organized the Otsego Sailing Club; by-laws  were  written
and race and social programs organized; and
  WHEREAS,  The founding members of the Otsego Sailing Club are: Natalie
and Fran Combar; Barbara and Jack Huntington; Lisel  and  Bus  Romeling;
Flo and Art Schnell; and Lorena and Henry Troeger; and
  WHEREAS,  The support that the Otsego Sailing Club received from Harry
Cook was one of the key factors that assured  its  future;  for  several
years  he  permitted  the club to rent part of his land; he then sold to
the club the property it now owns; and
  WHEREAS, The Otsego Sailing Club has prospered over the years  due  to
the good will and cooperative spirit of its members; and
  WHEREAS,  The  rich  history  of the Otsego Sailing Club has formed it
into the prominent organization it is today; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when  organiza-
tions  of  such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all  the  citizens  of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Otsego Sailing Club on  July  2,
2011; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Otsego Sailing Club.
