LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Albany Symphony Orchestra and its
Music Director, David Alan Miller, upon the occasion of performing
"Spirituals Re-Imagined" on May 10, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those musical organizations that have brought entertainment and
cultural enrichment to the citizens of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Albany Symphony Orchestra and its Music Director, David Alan Miller,
upon the occasion of performing "Spirituals Re-Imagined" at the North
American Symphony and Chamber Orchestra's Spring for Music Festival,
presented at Carnegie Hall, New York, New York, on Tuesday, May 10,
2011; and
WHEREAS, Spring for Music is a new and innovative festival of concerts
by North American Symphony and Chamber Orchestras presented annually at
Carnegie Hall; the festival is designed to allow chosen orchestras to
showcase their artistic philosophies through distinctive and creative
programming in one of the world's most competitive music environments;
and
WHEREAS, Spring for Music was created by three music industry veterans
who serve as the project's directors; the founders are: Thomas W.
Morris, CEO and Artistic Director; David V. Foster, Production Director;
and Mary Lou Falcone, Public Relations Director; and
WHEREAS, The Albany Symphony Orchestra was selected for the festival
by Thomas W. Morris for its distinctive attribute of being courageous,
adventurous and creative; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of David Alan Miller, the Alba-
ny Symphony Orchestra, has received more national awards for creative
programming than any orchestra in the country, and was one of the seven
orchestras in North America selected to play in the initial festival;
and
WHEREAS, The arts, in whatever form depicted, are central to human
expression; they are truly a universal language and their contribution
to the development of friendship and understanding among all peoples
cannot be underestimated; and
WHEREAS, The history, the heritage, and the lives of the people of all
countries and all cultures are portrayed in their music and dance; the
art and act of sharing them enriches us altogether; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Albany Symphony Orchestra and its Music Director, David Alan
Miller, upon the occasion of performing "Spirituals Re-Imagined" on May
10, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Albany Symphony Orchestra and Music Director, David Alan
Miller.
