LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Laura Child upon the occasion of her
retirement after many years of distinguished service to Otsego County

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Laura Child upon the occasion of her retirement after many years of
distinguished service to the Otsego County Board of Representatives to
be celebrated with a party on Friday, December 17, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Laura Child was employed by SUCO for two years doing mapping
of Schoharie County prior to working for the Otsego County Planning
Department which she began in October of 1980; and
WHEREAS, In January of 1986, she was appointed auditor/clerk of the
board, the position from which she will officially retire on Tuesday,
January 4, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the taxpayers and well-liked and respected among
her co-workers, for three decades Laura Child rendered faithful, consci-
entious and valuable service to Otsego County; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as auditor/clerk of the board she served with
loyalty, honor and distinction, and was governed by a keen sense of
duty, always showing a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised on Long Island, Laura married Steve Child in
January of 1978; a wonderful wife and a loving mother to her daughter,
Sarah and her two dogs, she loves living in the country and enjoys
quilting, hiking, fishing, gardening and fixing old houses; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Laura Child upon the occasion of her retirement after many years
of distinguished service to Otsego County; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Laura Child.
