LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the State University of New York College
of Environmental Science and Forestry upon the occasion of its 100th
Anniversary

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of commitment and high achievement, whose
purpose and endeavors prove a dedication to the pursuit of excellence in
the education of the young adults of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Fores-
try upon the occasion of its 100th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The New York State College of Forestry was founded in 1911,
in partnership with Syracuse University, to help in the solution of
forestry problems, and by special act of the New York State Legislature,
in 1972, the New York State College of Forestry became the State Univer-
sity of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry; and
WHEREAS, Only fifty-two students were enrolled in the first New York
State College of Forestry class, but the State University of New York
College of Environmental Science and Forestry has grown to an enrollment
of nearly 2,200 students today; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, programs were added in design, engineering,
and life sciences, as well as natural resources management to meet the
growing appreciation and demand for the environmental science field; and
WHEREAS, As the State University of New York College of Environmental
Science and Forestry heads toward its 100th Anniversary, the College is
at the forefront of developing the technologies to create a sustainable
future; and
WHEREAS, Under the direction of President Cornelius B. Murphy, Jr.,
the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and
Forestry has taken a leadership role in the development of alternative
energy, helping restore endangered species, and fostering a sense of
service in the student body; and
WHEREAS, It is only fitting that this Legislative Body extend its
highest commendation to the administration of the State University of
New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry for their dedi-
cation and commitment to the students, the school and the community in
the creation of a better world for the citizens of tomorrow; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the State University of New York College of Environmental Science
and Forestry upon the occasion of its 100th Anniversary at the July 28,
2011, Green Tie Dinner Centennial Celebration; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the State University of New York College of Environmental
Science and Forestry.
