LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Charles "Boots" Day upon the occasion of
his induction into the Mohawk Valley Baseball Hall of Fame, February 11,
2012

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes and coaches who distinguish themselves through
their exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the
highest level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, It is the duty of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those individuals whose actions and accomplishments have
served to honor and benefit the people of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The game of baseball, with its origins and so much of its
great history in New York State, has long held a place of honor among
the citizens of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor
Charles "Boots" Day upon the occasion of his induction into the Mohawk
Valley Baseball Hall of Fame; this auspicious occasion will be cele-
brated on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the Knights Inn in Little
Falls, New York; and
WHEREAS, A native of Ilion, New York, Charles "Boots" Day played major
league baseball for all or parts of six seasons from 1969 through 1974;
and
WHEREAS, Charles "Boots" Day began his professional baseball career in
the Western Carolina League with Round Rock in 1966; he broke into the
major leagues with the St. Louis Cardinals and also played for the
Chicago Cubs and Montreal Expos; and
WHEREAS, During his outstanding major league career, Charles "Boots"
Day batted .256, including a .283 mark for Montreal in 1971; he appeared
in 471 major league games and accumulated eight career home runs and 98
runs batted in; and
WHEREAS, Subsequent to his major league playing career, Charles
"Boots" Day has compiled a distinguished baseball coaching and scouting
career with the baseball organizations of the Detroit Tigers, New York
Yankees, Kansas City Royals, Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Cardinals,
Arizona Diamondbacks and Washington Nationals; in 2010, he was the
hitting coach of the Calgary Vipers of the Golden Baseball League; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of the Ilion High School Class of 1965, Charles
"Boots" Day achieved a well-deserved near-mythic baseball and basketball
reputation in high school; he won all but one game in his scholastic
pitching career and was a phenomenal hitter, as well as a great all-a-
round athlete; still a hero in Ilion, he is regarded as the best athlete
ever to play at Ilion High School; and
WHEREAS, Charles "Boots" Day is the proud father of two daughters:
Kori and Tara, and has six beloved granddaughters; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his years in baseball, Charles "Boots" Day has
shown tremendous talent, courage, desire to succeed, and most important-
ly, a level of professionalism and sportsmanship that has served to make
him a lasting role model; and
WHEREAS, A legend in the Mohawk Valley, Charles "Boots" Day's 45 years
in professional baseball are testament to his worthiness for the honor
of being inducted into the Mohawk Valley Baseball Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, The auspicious occasion of his induction into the Mohawk
Valley Baseball Hall of Fame provides a unique opportunity for this
Legislative Body to honor Charles "Boots" Day for his extraordinary
athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to his skill, dedication
and commitment; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations with
praise and pride to honor Charles "Boots" Day upon the occasion of his
induction into the Mohawk Valley Baseball Hall of Fame; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Charles "Boots" Day.
