LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Samuel A. Belnavis upon the occasion of
his induction into the Cricket Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those exemplary athletes, coaches and administrators who have
distinguished themselves through their outstanding commitment, and
attained unprecedented success and the highest level of personal
achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Samuel A. Belnavis upon the occasion of his induction into the Cricket
Hall of Fame on October 6, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Samuel Belnavis first developed a love for the game of crick-
et in the village of Sturge Town, located in the hills of the Dry Harbor
Mountains of St. Ann, Jamaica; he was later selected to represent Jamai-
ca in the 1971 Benson & Hedges U-19 Tournament; and
WHEREAS, Samuel Belnavis came to the United States in the fall of 1971
and began playing competitively in the spring of 1973 in the Long Island
Cricket League; he is a founding member of the Villagers CC which was
established in 1980, and has held positions of president, captain,
manager and most recently, treasurer; and
WHEREAS, From 2000 - 2003, Samuel Belnavis served as Director of the
Red Stripe Cricket Competition, which was the premier competition in the
United States at that time; and
WHEREAS, On the national stage in 2004 as President of the Metropol-
itan Cricket League, and a leader of the USACA Council of League Presi-
dents, Samuel Belnavis and his colleagues convened in Dallas, Texas, to
represent the clubs and leagues in their quest to obtain more power in
the administration of cricket in America; this meeting set the stage for
and contributed directly to the power the leagues currently hold in
USACA; and
WHEREAS, Samuel Belnavis is part of sponsoring an annual tour to the
Caribbean which was established for the purpose of holding coaching
clinics and giving scholarships to promising cricketers, who need the
financial help for their education along with helping them develop their
game; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Samuel A. Belnavis upon the occasion of his induction into the
Cricket Flail of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Samuel A. Belnavis.
