LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Nancy Maguire upon the occasion of her
retirement after 40 years of distinguished service to the Cornwall
Central School District
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The future success of our State and Nation is dependent upon
individuals such as Nancy Maguire, who dedicate their lives as educa-
tors, nurturing our most precious resource, our youth; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Nancy
Maguire upon the occasion of her retirement after 40 years of distin-
guished service to the Cornwall Central School District; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Manhattanville College, Nancy Maguire earned a
Bachelor of Arts degree in History, as well as a MAT in Social Studies
Education; in addition, she graduated from SUNY New Paltz, with a CAS in
Educational Administration, and has achieved National Certification in
Adolescence and Young Adulthood; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Maguire is a Social Studies Teacher, as well as
District Coordinator for the Mentoring Program at the Cornwall Central
School District; during her many years of service she has touched the
lives of countless students, as well as many of her fellow educators;
and
WHEREAS, Nancy Maguire is the definition of excellence in teaching and
leadership; she has boundless energy and insight and is always ready and
willing to share with her students and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Deeply committed to promoting superior local, state, national
and global social studies programs, Nancy Maguire is currently President
of the Mid-Hudson Social Studies Council, and is an active member of
NYSCSS, NYSSC, NCSS, and Delta Kappa Gamma; and
WHEREAS, Since she began her teaching career, Nancy Maguire has
focused on global history and government; she has spent many years work-
ing with social studies specialists and colleagues at the New York State
Department of Education in an effort to maintain the high quality social
studies curriculum and assessment programs offered to students at Corn-
wall Central School District; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, throughout her lifetime of educational experi-
ence, Nancy Maguire has advocated for enriching curricular experiences
in the social studies classroom, fair assessments for all students, and
meaningful professional development for social studies educators; and
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and in the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those civic-minded community members who dedicate their lives
and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Nancy Maguire has brought an uncompro-
mising standard of excellence to her work and a warm sense of caring and
concern to every young person she educates; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Nancy Maguire upon the occasion of her retirement after 40 years
of distinguished service to the Cornwall Central School District; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nancy Maguire.
