LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Roberta Yannelli, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of her community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Roberta Yannelli, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of her community, on November 14, 2013, at the age of 71;
and
WHEREAS, Born Roberta Muhr, Roberta Yannelli grew up in Valley Stream,
New York; she graduated from St. Agnes Cathedral High School in Rock-
ville Centre in 1959; and
WHEREAS, Roberta Yannelli distinguished herself in her profession and
by her sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
her community; and
WHEREAS, Roberta Yannelli earned a nursing degree from Georgetown
University in 1963, and began her nursing career at Franklin General
Hospital in Valley Stream; she later earned a master's degree in educa-
tion in 1989 from Adelphi University and began teaching special educa-
tion; and
WHEREAS, She taught at South Side High School in Rockville Centre for
several years before teaching for 10 years at St. Agnes Cathedral School
in Rockville Centre; and
WHEREAS, Roberta Yannelli was an enthusiastic teacher, dedicated to
her students and to the field of education; her determination and
commitment to her work, despite significant health challenges inspired a
generation of students, as well as all who knew her; and
WHEREAS, She will be long remembered for her sense of humor, positive
outlook, and deep love for her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Roberta Yannelli is survived by her husband, Frank Yannelli;
sons, Chris, Michael, and Thomas; brother, Robert Muhr; sister-in-law,
Jane Yannelli Rinn; and six grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Roberta Yannelli leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all she served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Roberta Yannelli, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Roberta Yannelli.
