LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 75th Anniversary of The Land-
mark Society of Western New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who are devoted to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 75th Anniversary of The Landmark Society of Western New York;
and
WHEREAS, The Landmark Society of Western New York is one of the oldest
and most active preservation organizations in the United States; and
WHEREAS, The long and proud history of serving Western New York has
garnered The Landmark Society of Western New York national recognition
over the years as a nationwide leader in the historic preservation move-
ment; and
WHEREAS, To observe this illustrious milestone, The Landmark Society
of Western New York is launching several key initiatives which will
enhance its effectiveness, increase community impact, and elevate its
relevance in being an agent for positive and powerful change; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Executive Director Wayne Good-
man, The Landmark Society of Western New York has launched a Preserva-
tion Grant Fund, a Preservation Loan Program, an African-American Land-
marks Task Force and is in the process of launching a web-based
educational program entitled "Preservation Through the Portal"; and
WHEREAS, Historic preservation is more relevant now than ever before;
it plays a major role in revitalizing neighborhoods and communities,
stimulating economic activity, and capitalizing on new sources of public
and private investment; in addition, it offers a sustainable alternative
to new development, conserves resources, and protects and promotes the
qualities that make our communities distinctive places; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to The Landmark Soci-
ety of Western New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that when an
organization of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our
attention, it should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of The Landmark Society of Western New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Landmark Society of Western New York.
