LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mary Kae Higgins upon the occasion of
her designation as Deputy Grand Marshal of the Annual Bay Ridge St.
Patrick's Day Parade on March 23, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those distinguished citizens of the State of New York who
devote their lifework and civic endeavor in service to their community,
adding to the character and quality of life for all citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mary
Kae Higgins upon the occasion of her designation as Deputy Grand Marshal
of the Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday, March 23,
2014; and
WHEREAS, Mary Kae Higgins was born on January 26, 1957 to John and
Sally McGreevy Higgins in Newark, New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Rutgers University, Mary Kae Higgins earned a
Business Administration degree in 1980; upon graduation, she moved to
New York City and worked with Merrill Lynch as a Financial Consultant
for 11 years; and
WHEREAS, Mary Kae Higgins later took a position at the National Bank
of Canada, and after 11 years she enthusiastically accepted the esteemed
position of Vice President in Corporate Cash Management at the Bank of
New York; and
WHEREAS, After being laid off due to the events of September 11, 2001,
Mary Kae Higgins found her passion selling real estate; she completed
courses from the National Association of Realtors, and received her
Assistant Appraisal License from New York State; and
WHEREAS, Mary Kae Higgins has been ranked number one in her office for
seven consecutive years, and in 2010, she remarkably was ranked number
one in all of New York State; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Bay Ridge for the past 18 years, Mary Kae
Higgins found her spiritual home at St. Andrew's Church where she became
the Hospitality Minister and assisted with the Life Teen program for
several years; and
WHEREAS, Active within her community, Mary Kae Higgins volunteered
with the Zion Lutheran Church soup kitchen until 2002, and in 2006,
joined the Ladies of Ancient Hibernia; she also currently serves as
Secretary for the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post No. 157;
and
WHEREAS, Mary Kae Higgins is a fitting choice for Deputy Grand Marshal
of the Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade, for she embodies the spirit
and the cherished ideals and values of this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities
and generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage
of the Irish people throughout these United States; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and highlights the many
contributions and historical accomplishments of the Irish community in
this diverse land; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mary Kae Higgins upon the occasion of her designation as Deputy
Grand Marshal of the Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade on March
23, 2014; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mary Kae Higgins.
