LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the New
York Mills Union Free School District

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of commitment and high achievement whose
purpose and endeavors prove a dedication to the pursuit of excellence in
the education of the youth of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of the New York Mills Union Free School
District; this momentous occasion will be celebrated with a Centennial
Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the Twin Ponds Golf & Coun-
try Club, New York Mills, New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this milestone will be honored with a Boys and
Girls Alumni Basketball Game on Saturday, March 29, 2014, as well as a
presentation of the new 2014 time capsule on Friday, April 25, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The steadfast and unyielding commitment of parents, educators
and administrators to provide the highest quality education for students
has become the hallmark and tradition of the New York Mills Union Free
School District; and
WHEREAS, The New York Mills Union Free School District was first
organized when several schools in the village merged on April 12, 1913;
the District was formally approved by New York State on May 5, 1913; and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, the New York Mills Union Free
School District helps its students become motivated, responsible, caring
individuals by providing resources and a safe, supportive environment
which encourage students to pursue excellence; and
WHEREAS, The New York Mills Union Free School District has tradi-
tionally celebrated the 100th Day of the school year in a big way,
particularly at the elementary level; this year, the school district
held an Assembly on Thursday, February 13, 2014, to honor the 100th day
of its 100th school year as part of its Centennial Celebration which
included the opening of the 1957 time capsule; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, included in the original 1957 time capsule,
placed behind the cornerstone of the current school building, was a 1957
penny, class lists, teacher handbook, district letterhead, and a
pamphlet advertising the school budget; and
WHEREAS, Within the 21st Century, the New York Mills Union Free School
District stands prepared to reach out, in its earnest and enthusiastic
quest of its mission, to promote the maximum growth of every student,
establishing standards and building skills which will carry its students
and the citizens of its community into the future; and
WHEREAS, The New York Mills Union Free School District is proudly
aware of its distinguished past, eager to fulfill its present commitment
to parents, students and the community, and planning with vision and
purpose for the ebb and swell of growth and change it will encounter in
the years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the New York Mills Union Free
School District; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the New York Mills Union Free School District.
