LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Officer Anthony Raghubir upon the occa-
sion of his designation as the 2014 Police Officer of the Year

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Officer Antho-
ny Raghubir upon the occasion of his designation as the 2014 Police
Officer of the Year, to be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2014, during
a Service and Banquet in his honor at the Sixth Avenue Bible Baptist
Church, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Officer Anthony Raghubir, of the 78th Precinct in Brooklyn
was selected to receive this auspicious award for his excellence in the
Vision Zero Project, a city-wide initiative to increase pedestrian safe-
ty by reducing the speed limit in high-risk areas, increasing police
presence around high crash history locations, targeting Grand Army Plaza
and Flatbush Avenue with greater surveillance, and writing summons' for
vehicles which fail to yield to pedestrians; and
WHEREAS, First exposed to police work while attending Molloy College
in Long Island, Officer Anthony Raghubir enrolled in a work-scholarship
program called Police Cadet Corps; and
WHEREAS, Officer Anthony Raghubir has been a police officer for nearly
three years; upon earning his Bachelor's degree in Nursing in June of
2011, he decided to pursue a career with the New York City Police
Department and began working in Bushwick's 83rd Precinct; one year later
he came to the 78th Precinct to be a part of its Highway Unit; and
WHEREAS, It is appropriate to recognize and commend such outstanding
law enforcement officers as Officer Anthony Raghubir for their valued
contributions to the community; and
WHEREAS, it is the custom of this Legislative Body that those dedi-
cated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preser-
vation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full
praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Officer Anthony Raghubir upon the occasion of his designation as
the 2014 Police Officer of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Officer Anthony Raghubir.
