LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Fred Heller upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Alan Goodenow Memorial Award for
Outstanding Service to the Community by the Greater Warsaw Chamber of
Commerce on March 20, 2014
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Fred Heller has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Fred Heller
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Alan Goodenow
Memorial Award for Outstanding Service to the Community by the Greater
Warsaw Chamber of Commerce at its Annual Dinner on Thursday, March 20,
2014, at Breezy Hill Party House, Warsaw, New York; and
WHEREAS, Fred Heller has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, After moving to Warsaw, New York in 1954, Fred Heller set up
his practice as the first physical therapist at the Wyoming Community
Hospital, being the first in all of Wyoming County; in addition, as a
member of the Kiwanis Club, he organized the first Salvation Army Bell
Ringers in Warsaw; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Warsaw Historical Society, Fred Heller's
research was instrumental in the publication of two books; THE KIWANIS
CLUB OF WARSAW, depicts the history of the club from its inception in
1923, along with many photos thought to be lost; and
WHEREAS, Fred Heller's most recent book, THE WARSAW SALT BATHS AND
SANITARIUM, is a history of the Sanitarium built in 1890 at the height
of the County's salt boom; this first of its kind Sanitarium catered to
a nation of people who were looking for remedies for rheumatic and nerve
problems by soaking in these salt bath pools; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Fred Heller, fascinated with the history of his
community, built his house on the property where the Sanitarium, which
burned in 1897, once stood; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Fred Heller has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Fred Heller has displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Fred Heller upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Alan Goodenow Memorial Award for Outstanding Service to the Communi-
ty by the Greater Warsaw Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Fred Heller.
