LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Stephen R. Coffey upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2014 Third Age Achievement Award in
Law by Senior Services of Albany
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Stephen R. Coffey has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Stephen R.
Coffey upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2014
Third Age Achievement Award in Law by Senior Services of Albany, to be
celebrated at its 18th Annual Third Age Achievement Awards luncheon on
Friday, May 2, 2014, at Wolfert's Roost Country Club, Albany, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Attorney Stephen R. Coffey is a partner at the law firm of
O'Connell & Aronowitz in Albany, where he specializes in plaintiff
negligence and criminal defense; and
WHEREAS, Renowned for his commitment to his clients and his fearless
approach when confronted with injustice, Stephen R. Coffey was selected
by his peers as a New York Super lawyer in the fields of both personal
injury and criminal defense; he has been featured as a regular commenta-
tor on local television and radio stations; and
WHEREAS, Stephen R. Coffey has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, In addition to providing pro bono legal services for individ-
uals unable to afford legal fees, for the past five years this dedicated
man has been an active member of The Miracle League in East Greenbush,
New York, which provides athletic and social opportunities to special
needs children and their families at no cost; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Stephen R. Coffey is an active volunteer at the
Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center, and hosts an annual dinner, "League
Leaders in the Fall" to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy; he was a
board member at Hope House Outpatient Clinic in Albany; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Joan, and they are the
proud parents of two sons, Ian and the late Quinn; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Stephen R. Coffey has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Stephen R. Coffey has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Stephen R. Coffey upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the 2014 Third Age Achievement Award in Law by Senior Services of
Albany; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Stephen R. Coffey.
