LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sarah Murray upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Student Award by the Capital District
YMCA Guilderland and Bethlehem branches

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sarah Murray
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Student Award
by the Capital District YMCA Guilderland and Bethlehem branches to be
celebrated at its 17th Annual Outstanding Student and Educator ceremony
on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at the Appel Inn in Altamont, New York; and
WHEREAS, A junior at Clayton A. Bouton High School, Sarah Murray is
always willing to help and contribute to her school; she also has a
strong desire to help out the less fortunate, and do so in another part
of the world; and
WHEREAS, In summer of 2013, Sarah Murray was able to go South Africa
when she received a scholarship through The Broadreach Foundation to
study African Wildlife and Conservation; she volunteered to collect data
in the field, where they would use the information to develop a better
understanding of how to protect the animals and preserve the land; and
WHEREAS, During her time in South Africa, Sarah Murray took a day trip
to volunteer at a nearby orphanage which houses approximately 100 chil-
dren who lost their parents to HIV/AIDS, as well as many of the chil-
dren, also diagnosed with the same disease; and
WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and her commitment to others,
Sarah Murray represents the best development of the potential which is
inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; and
WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to wish Sarah Murray continued success throughout her school years
and beyond; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sarah Murray upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Student Award by the Capital District YMCA Guilderland and Bethlehem
branches; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sarah Murray.
