LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Robert V. Pinto, Sr. posthumously upon
the occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the
highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Robert V.
Pinto, Sr. posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by
the New York State Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by a
resolution in 2014 and is awarded to individuals who have merited
special commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on
behalf of their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Born on April 6, 1932, in Austerlitz, New York, to Caroline
and James Pinto, Sr., Robert V. Pinto, Sr. attended Spencertown School,
and Chatham High School; and
WHEREAS, Mary and Robert V. Pinto, Sr. were united in marriage on
April 5, 1952, at St. James Church; together, they raised two sons,
Robert J. and Steven; and
WHEREAS, In 1953, Robert V. Pinto, Sr. began serving his country as a
member of the United States Army; after completing basic training, he
attended Ordnance School and a track vehicle mechanic course in Tokyo
Ordnance Depot; and
WHEREAS, Robert V. Pinto, Sr. went on to attain the rank of Sergeant,
and served with the 38th Infantry Regiment, as well as the Second (Indi-
an Head) Division in Korea as a Tank Sergeant; and
WHEREAS, In 1960, Robert V. Pinto, Sr. was honorably discharged and
awarded the following accolades for his exceptional service: Korean
Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and the
National Defense Medal; and
WHEREAS, After his service, Robert V. Pinto, Sr. attended Welding
School, and was employed by Bams Johnson Construction, and New York
Central System as a District Lineman; after New York Central was sold to
Penn Central, he worked as the District Lineman in charge of communi-
cations from Chatham, New York, to Springfield, Massachusetts; he was
last employed by Chatham Motors, retiring in 1980; and
WHEREAS, Robert V. Pinto, Sr. was called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and always gave
of himself unstintingly; he was a member of the Spencertown Rod and Gun
Club and the Spencertown Fire Company, as well as an Umpire for the
Little League Association; every New Year's Day, he and his wife would
hold an open house for their community; and
WHEREAS, Robert V. Pinto, Sr. passed away on November 3, 1990, at the
age of 58; he is survived by his two sons, seven grandchildren, and
three great-grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Today, 24 years after his death, the bravery and willingness
of Robert V. Pinto, Sr. to fight for the lives of his fellow human
beings, continues to inspire, and is deserving of the highest honor by
all defenders of freedom; and

WHEREAS, Individuals such as Robert V. Pinto, Sr. devoted to improving
the quality of life for others, enabling them to build lives of dignity
and self-worth are deserving of the highest praise and recognition; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Robert V. Pinto, Sr. posthumously upon the occasion of his desig-
nation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon
an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Robert V. Pinto, Sr.
