LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Judith and Martin Mehler upon the occa-
sion of their designation as recipients of the 2014 Keter Torah Award by
the Jericho Jewish Center on June 12, 2014

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Judith and Martin Mehler have given not only of their time
and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership
and consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Judith and
Martin Mehler upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of
the 2014 Keter Torah Award by the Jericho Jewish Center, to be cele-
brated at its 2014 Gala Evening of Tribute, on Thursday, June 12, 2014,
at the Center in Jericho, New York; and
WHEREAS, Judith and Martin Mehler and their family have been active
and enthusiastic members of the Jericho Jewish Center (JJC) for many
years; and
WHEREAS, Martin Mehler has been involved in many JJC committees, and
served the Center's President; he is currently a member of the Board of
Trustees, can often be found at daily minyan, and writes a regular
column, "The Sporting Jew," for the JJC newsletter; Judith Mehler is an
active member of the Sisterhood; and
WHEREAS, Martin Mehler was born on Manhattan's Lower East Side, the
son of Holocaust survivors; he moved to the Bronx at the age of five,
and after graduating from City College of New York in Manhattan, he
attended and graduated from Albany Law School, Union University; and
WHEREAS, Judith Mehler was born in the Bronx, and raised in Queens;
also born to Holocaust survivors, she attended Queens College where she
earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education; she
worked for the State of New York helping the unemployed, and subsequent-
ly worked for what would become Chase Bank, training future tellers; and
WHEREAS, Judith and Martin Mehler have been called upon to contribute
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, They are the proud parents of Heather and Matthew; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Judith and Martin Mehler have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Judith and Martin Mehler have displayed
throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Judith and Martin Mehler upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the 2014 Keter Torah Award by the Jericho Jewish Center on
June 12, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Judith and Martin Mehler.
