LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Pamela Brown upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Neighborhood Service Award by the Flat-
bush Development Corporation

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Pamela Brown has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Pamela Brown upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Neighborhood Service Award by the Flatbush Development Corporation which
was celebrated at its 39th Annual Awards Benefit on Thursday, May 8,
2014, at Gargiulo's Restaurant in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Flatbush Development Corporation's mission is to enhance
the quality of life for all segments of the Flatbush community; it iden-
tifies and responds to neighborhood needs and concerns, proactively
creating programs and campaigns that work towards a healthy, safe and
vibrant community; its economic development, housing, youth, and immi-
gration programs serve the exceptionally diverse needs of its community;
and
WHEREAS, For the past 21 years, Pamela Brown and her family have lived
in the Flatbush area; she appreciates the wonderful neighbors and
nurturing relationships she has formed which has made living there abso-
lutely priceless; and
WHEREAS, Pamela Brown obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree and Master
of Arts degree from Brooklyn College and the CUNY Graduate Center; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Pamela Brown works at Brooklyn College as the
Internship Specialist, and pre-law advisor at the Magner Career Center,
as well as teaching as an Adjunct for the Economics department; she
finds it extremely rewarding to be able to encourage students as they
come through her office; and
WHEREAS, As a career counselor who is always on the prowl for intern-
ships for her students, Pamela Brown has established some strong and
respectable relationships with many in the business community; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Pamela Brown is a former member and
past President of the 42nd Assembly District Community Democratic Club,
and an active member of the South Midwood Residence Association; in
addition, she has established partnerships with a number of nonprofit
organizations in Brooklyn including Playfair Planning Services, Housing
Works, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, Junction BID, COJO Flatbush, Grow-
NYC, AHRC, and the Erasmus Neighborhood Federation; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Pamela Brown's professional affiliations at
Brooklyn College include the NAPLA Pre-Law Advisors Association, the
Dress for Success Planning Committee, the College Wide Election Review
Committee, Small Business Center at BC Funding Planning Committee, the
White House Internship Project Planning Committee, and the BC Sustaina-
bility Council; and
WHEREAS, Pamela Brown feels strongly that as an active participant in
the community she has come to appreciate her special neighborhood even
more; not only does she get to know and become involved in community
activities with her neighbors, but also the different people who are
involved in the daily political processes that directly affect the love-
ly Victorian Flatbush; and

WHEREAS, Pamela Brown has a vested interest in the future of her
community and its progression to continually improve; and
WHEREAS, Pamela Brown has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Pamela Brown has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Joel, and their
three children, Robert, Joelle, and Britteney, all of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Pamela Brown has displayed through-
out her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Pamela Brown upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Neighborhood Service Award by the Flatbush Development Corporation;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Pamela Brown.
