LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Barbara Davis upon the occasion of her
retirement after many years of distinguished service as Executive Direc-
tor of the Albany County Bar Association

WHEREAS, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed resi-
dents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Barbara Davis upon the occasion of her retirement after many years of
distinguished service as Executive Director of the Albany County Bar
Association, to be celebrated with a Retirement Party in her honor on
Thursday, June 12, 2014; and
WHEREAS, For the past 29 years, Barbara Davis rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the Albany County Bar Association;
and
WHEREAS, Since 1985, Barbara Davis has overseen the significant expan-
sion of the membership and programs of the Albany County Bar Association
and its services to the citizens of Albany County; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as Executive Director, Barbara Davis served
with loyalty, honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, When Continuing Legal Education (CLE) was mandated in New
York, Barbara Davis ensured that the Albany County Bar Association
became one of the first Accredited Providers, and thereafter held
programs of the highest standards for the education of Bar Association
members; and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Barbara Davis was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Barbara Davis, the Albany
County Bar Association Pro Bono programs have vastly expanded and
improved, including advocacy for poor tenants, bankruptcy represen-
tation, and pro se divorce litigants; these programs have helped thou-
sands without resources to retain their apartments, fend off creditors,
and obtain divorces in Albany County; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, she has also been instrumental in the success of
the Annual Run Against Domestic Violence, the Annual Court of Appeals
Dinner, and Annual Senior Citizens Law Day to provide free legal advice
to the elderly in Albany County, as well as a national award winning
Diversity Internship Program to expand the experience of minority
lawyers; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure with the Albany County Bar Association,
Barbara Davis earned the admiration, esteem and affection of her
colleagues, and leaves the organization a far larger, stronger and
better county bar association; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that demon-
strated by Barbara Davis over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to
others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Barbara Davis upon the occasion of her retirement after many
years of distinguished service as Executive Director of the Albany Coun-
ty Bar Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Barbara Davis.
