LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil,
taking place June 12-July 13, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with its
time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those events
which bring the world together and foster national pride; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to this concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body if justly proud to commem-
orate the playing of the 20th FIFA World Cup in Brazil; and
WHEREAS, The quadrennial FIFA World Cup is an event which draws
hundreds of millions of viewers from across the globe and inspires
nations to join together in common interest; and
WHEREAS, The nation of Brazil, winner of five past World Cups, the
most of any nation, will play host to the 2014 World Cup which will be
played between the 12th of June and the 13th of July, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Thirty-two nations from all six inhabited continents will be
represented and vying for the title of World Champions; and
WHEREAS, The popularity of world football in the United States and New
York has continued to grow at a rapid pace; and
WHEREAS, In keeping with New York's status as a true national and
cultural melting pot, the 2014 World Cup is of special and abiding
interest to our diverse population; and
WHEREAS, Outside of Brazil there is no more fitting a place than New
York to experience the passion and pride that only the world's game can
stir in the hearts of fans and non-fans alike; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil commencing on Thursday, June
12, 2014.
