LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Rose M. Fleming for her many years of
distinguished community service and years as an educator to be cele-
brated July 3, 2014

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Rose M. Fleming has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Rose M. Flem-
ing for her many years of distinguished community service and years as
an educator to be celebrated July 3, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Rose Marie Fleming graduated at
the top of her class with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology; soon
after graduation, she decided to broaden her horizons and moved to New
York City; and
WHEREAS, While living in New York, Rose M. Fleming married, was
widowed and raised five children, Robert, Regina, Robin, Rita and Roger;
and
WHEREAS, Rose M. Fleming met every obstacle and challenge with faith
and endurance; she emphasized the importance of religion, education and
good work ethics to her children; and
WHEREAS, Rose M. Fleming enjoyed spending time at the Far Rockaway
Branch of the Public Library; before computers, she would hand write and
categorize the hundreds of books her children would check out and read
from the library each year; and
WHEREAS, With her guidance, her children hold 11 degrees between the
five of them; in addition, they have been the recipients of numerous
community service awards for their volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, Rose M. Fleming has been an educator for over 30 years in the
New York School system and for over 40 years in the Rockaway community;
she has served as a volunteer at P.S. 104 in Far Rockaway, as a parapro-
fessional in Maxwell High School, Brooklyn, New York and currently as a
paraprofessional at Beach Channel High School in Rockaway Park, New York
which she will be retiring from in June 2014; and
WHEREAS, Her passion and dedication for children is well-known
throughout the Far Rockaway area, whether it is providing donations for
prom dresses, buying notebooks for students or simply making a student's
day by giving them a birthday card; and
WHEREAS, Affectionately known as Grandma Rose, Rose M. Fleming is a
gentle leader to many, always displaying the teachings of kindness,
generosity and love; and
WHEREAS, A member of First Baptist Church in Far Rockaway for 40
years, Rose M. Fleming has been the Nursery and Kindergarten teacher for
over 20 years; she is a member of the Mother's Day board which raises
money for high school students to go to college, directs the children's
special Sunday School Programs and participates in Vacation Bible
School; and
WHEREAS, Even a chance meeting with 75 year-old Rose M. Fleming can
both enhance and change one's life; with a heart for children, a loving
spirit, a commitment to education and community involvement, this
extraordinary woman is creating a legacy that will stand the test of
time; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Rose M. Fleming has displayed
throughout her life; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Rose M. Fleming for her many years of distinguished community
service and years as an educator to be celebrated July 3, 2014; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rose M. Fleming.
