LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lester Friedman upon the occasion of his
induction into the Port Jervis High School Alumni Hall of Fame in Octo-
ber 2014

WHEREAS, Individuals who distinguish themselves in their profession and
in service to their community merit the highest commendation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Lester Friedman upon the occasion of his induction into the Port Jervis
High School Alumni Hall of Fame; his outstanding accomplishments will be
recognized in October 2014, at the 2014 Port Jervis High School Alumni
Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Banquet; and
WHEREAS, The Port Jervis High School Alumni Hall of Fame annually
recognizes individuals educated in the Port Jervis City School District
who have achieved personal success and have made significant contrib-
utions to society, thereby serving as role models to inspire current and
future generations of Port Jervis students; and
WHEREAS, Lester Friedman, Class of 1963, is Professor of Media and
Society and Chair of the Media and Society Program at Hobart and William
Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York, where he was also a Scholar-in-Resi-
dence; and
WHEREAS, Leger Friedman is the author of four books, including CITIZEN
SPIELBERG, the first comprehensive study one of the most popular direc-
tors in American film history; and
WHEREAS, As a member of the 2014 Hall of Fame Class, Lester Friedman's
name, photo and biography will be inscribed on a plaque and placed on
permanent display at Port Jervis High School, an ever-present reminder
to students of the doors opened by a strong education; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those individ-
uals who enhance the well-being and vitality of their community, and
demonstrate a long and sustained commitment to excellence, certainly
have earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lester Friedman upon the occasion of his induction into the Port
Jervis High School Alumni Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lester Friedman.
