LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Putnam
Hospital Center
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality of life in the communities across this great State of New York
is enriched by the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions of distinction whose singular purpose is the care and welfare of
others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of Putnam Hospital Center; and
WHEREAS, Evolving from the 19-bed Mahopac Emergency Hospital, Putnam
Community Hospital opened its doors in October of 1964 as a 66-bed
voluntary hospital serving the needs of a community of 45,000; and
WHEREAS, In 1973, the Reed Building addition was constructed which
created additional bed capacity and a new emergency room; a reorganiza-
tion took place in 1985, during which time the hospital changed its name
to Putnam Hospital Center and established a parent company (Putnam
Center, Inc.) and a foundation (Putnam Hospital Center Foundation); both
the hospital and the foundation became subsidiaries of the new parent
company; and
WHEREAS, The Certified Home Health Care Agency and the Long Term Home
Health Care Program were added in 1987-88 in an effort to accommodate
the changes in how patient care was being provided, and in 1990, the
20-bed adult psychiatric unit was constructed in response to the commu-
nity's need for mental health services; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Celia Dill Dialysis Center for outpatients
was established in 1994, followed by a new birthing center in February
of 1999; in June of 2001, a new building on campus was opened with a
state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery unit, MRI center, pain management
program, outpatient radiology and physical therapy departments, 36
physicians' offices and administrative offices; and
WHEREAS, A two-story 20,000 square foot building housing a new and
expanded emergency department and additional physicians' offices was
opened in May 2003; and
WHEREAS, In June of 2008, Putnam Hospital Center opened the Camarda
Care Center, a five-story 113,000 square foot patient building to house
a new cancer center with radiation therapy, private patient rooms,
physician offices and a hospital/community use conference center; and
WHEREAS, Today, Putnam Hospital Center is a 164-bed not-for-profit
acute care hospital offering the highest quality medical, surgical,
psychiatric, pediatric and obstetrical/gynecological care, as well as
24-hour emergency services; and
WHEREAS, The hospital, which affiliated with Health Quest in May 2001,
has 110 medical/surgical beds, 10 intensive care beds, 10 pediatric
beds, 14 maternity beds and 20 adult psychiatric beds; a full range of
inpatient and outpatient services are offered; and
WHEREAS, Located on Stoneleigh Avenue in Carmel, New York, Putnam
Hospital Center serves a growing population of more than 150,000 men,
women and children who live and work in Putnam, northern Westchester and
southern Dutchess counties; it is Putnam County's largest employer with
a staff of over 350 highly qualified physicians, surgeons and allied
health professionals and approximately 1000 employees; and
WHEREAS, For the past five decades, Putnam Hospital Center has been
dedicated to providing the highest quality patient care with attention
to service excellence, patient safety, physician collaboration and inno-
vation to ensure it meets the needs of the communities it so ably
serves; and
WHEREAS, Putnam Hospital Center, and its expert staff, has had a long
and sustained commitment to the health and welfare of the citizens of
New York, and therefore merits the highest commendation of this Legisla-
tive Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Putnam Hospital Center; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Putnam Hospital Center, Carmel, New York.
