Teachers College, Columbia University, upon the occasion of the cele-
bration of its 125th Anniversary on Monday, March 4, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Teachers College is an icon, established two decades after
the Emancipation Proclamation, and during a time of massive immigration
and change in New York City; like the Statue of Liberty, which was dedi-

leadership and psychology; and
WHEREAS, Teachers College sees its leadership role in two complementa-
ry arenas; one is as a major player in policy-making to ensure that
schools are reformed and restructured to welcome all students regardless
of their socio-economic circumstances, and the other is in preparing
educators who not only serve students directly, but coordinate the
educational, psychological, behavioral, technological, and health initi-
atives to remove barriers to learning at all ages; and
WHEREAS, Teachers College's past accomplishments constitute a living
legacy, a foundation from which it is once again meeting society's needs
and anticipating the needs of the future; its three highly complementary
and interrelated areas of study -- education, psychology and health --
span more than 60 programs of study; and
WHEREAS, Teachers College graduates go on to pursue careers in
psychology, social and behavioral sciences, health and health promotion,
educational policy, technology, international and comparative education,
as well as education and educational leadership; and

all its endeavors on behalf of the College and the population it serves;
WHEREAS, Teachers College stands prepared to reach out in earnest and
