LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Myrtle Butterfield as a distinguished
citizen and student of Canton, New York
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Myrtle Butter-
field as a distinguished citizen and student of Canton, New York; and
WHEREAS, Myrtle Butterfield is an 83 year-old great-grandmother who
has always put her family first; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Myrtle Butterfield is attending classes at SUNY
Canton, 65 years after graduating from high school and after raising a
family; and
WHEREAS, Myrtle Butterfield has developed a new love for learning and
a flair for writing, appearing on the SUNY Canton President's list, with
a grade point average placing her in the top 10 percent of her class,
and earning her induction into two honor societies; and
WHEREAS, Myrtle Butterfield, who has been able to attend classes along
with two of her great-grandchildren, Carter Cutway and Jamie Butter-
field, often gives advice to her younger classmates; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and commend those who have witnessed and contributed to the devel-
opments and achievements of our Nation, State, and communities over the
course of their noteworthy lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Myrtle Butterfield as a distinguished citizen and student; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Myrtle Butterfield.
