LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Karl Gohlke upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2012 Health and Human Services Award by
the Senior Services of Albany

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Karl Gohlke has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Karl Gohlke
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2012 Health and
Human Services Award by the Senior Services of Albany, celebrated at its
Third Age Achievement Awards Event on Friday, November 16, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Karl Gohlke has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Upon retiring as a social worker, Karl Gohlke continued to
use his experience in human services and love of people by facilitating
various groups in Albany County; and
WHEREAS, Karl Gohlke worked with a local organization to try and
establish local hotlines for individuals needing support; and
WHEREAS, Karl Gohlke's passion for human services was evident even in
his youth and he worked hard earning his Eagle Scout while in high
school; and
WHEREAS, When his daughters wanted to be girl scouts, Karl Gohlke
quickly volunteered to be a leader and was an active board member of the
Hudson Valley Girl Scout Council for many years; and
WHEREAS, Karl Gohlke's career took him to the New York State Depart-
ment of Corrections where he was a probation officer; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man is involved in the "Changing Aging" and
New York State Policy and Politics programs; he has spent his entire
life working on improving the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Karl Gohlke has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Karl Gohlke has displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Karl Gohlke upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2012 Health and Human Services Award by the Senior Services of Alba-
ny; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Karl Gohlke.
