LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joan Dembinski upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2012 Arts and Culture Award by Senior
Services of Albany
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Joan Dembinski has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joan Dembinski
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2012 Arts and
Culture Award by Senior Services of Albany, celebrated at its Third Age
Achievement Awards Event on Friday, November 16, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Joan Dembinski has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Joan Dembinski grew up and continues to reside in Albany, New
York; she attended Albany Academy for Girls and graduated from Mount
Holyoke College with a degree in Zoology; and
WHEREAS, Joan Dembinski spent 30 years at Sterling Winthrop Research
Institute evaluating investigational medicines for heart failure and
diabetes in humans; she also spent 20 years at Omnicare Clinical
Research as project director; and
WHEREAS, After 50 years in medical research, Joan Dembinski decided to
pursue her love of cooking by enrolling in Schenectady County Community
College's culinary program; and
WHEREAS, Joan Dembinski graduated at the top of her culinary class and
currently works in the kitchen at Yono's restaurant whipping up homemade
breads and pastries much to the delight of the customers and staff; and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary woman is a silver medal contest winner of
the American Culinary Federation's Annual Competition Classic held at
Schenectady Community College and was on the team that won a gold medal
at the Knowledge Bowl ACF Competition held in Hershey, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Joan Dembinski continues to travel and volunteer at the Equi-
nox Thanksgiving Event and Honest Weight Food Co-Op; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Joan Dembinski has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Joan Dembinski has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joan Dembinski upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the 2012 Arts and Culture Award by Senior Services of Albany; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joan Dembinski.
