LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Margaret Finnegan Griffin upon the
occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday on April 8, 2013

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Margar-
et Finnegan Griffin upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday;
and
WHEREAS, Margaret Finnegan Griffin of Oswego, New York, was born on
April 8, 1913, to Daniel Finnegan and Ellen McCarthy Finnegan; and
WHEREAS, Affectionately known as Margie by family and friends, this
extraordinary woman traveled to San Francisco during World War II to
volunteer as a telephone operator, taking calls for the soldiers over-
seas; and
WHEREAS, She stayed in San Francisco for 60 years, running a car park-
ing business with her husband until his death; she also worked for the
Pacific Bell telephone company until her retirement; and
WHEREAS, While in California, Margie Griffin was a member of the San
Francisco YMCA, volunteered her time and energies for them, and enjoyed
trips to other parts of California, as well as to Las Vegas, Nevada and
Arizona; and
WHEREAS, After her retirement, Margie Griffin returned to Oswego in
2003, and today, resides in St. Luke's Health Services where a 100th
Birthday Celebration will be held in her honor with many of her nieces,
nephews and friends in attendance; and
WHEREAS, This lively centenarian, enjoyed cooking, traveling, hiking
and biking into her 90s; she traveled to Ireland in the 1980s with her
brother to visit the place of her parents' birth; and
WHEREAS, Margie Griffin remains active at St. Luke's doing word
searches and participating in a daily exercise program; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman, who has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life, has inspired the lives of her
many friends and family; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for life and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Margaret Finnegan Griffin upon the occasion of celebrating
her 100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Margaret Finnegan Griffin.
