LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim April 7 - 13, 2013 as Education Week in the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and set
aside official weeks to address matters of great import to the State of
New York and its citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to memori-
alize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim April 7 - 13, 2013 as Educa-
tion Week in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, During this week this Legislative Body, on behalf of the
people of the State of New York, is justly proud to recognize and
commend those illustrious individuals of distinguished purpose whose
lives have been committed to the pursuit of excellence in education of
the youth of the Empire State and the institutions they serve; and
WHEREAS, Leaders in New York State recognize the importance of provid-
ing the children of the state with the best possible education in order
to ensure the development of a prosperous, productive, and informed
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, In identifying and observing Education Week New Yorkers
recognize that all New Yorkers have a stake in the educational well-be-
ing of our children; and
WHEREAS, New York State's schools provide our students with the educa-
tion foundation they need to understand and value our nation's freedom,
civility and equality; and
WHEREAS, New York State's schools provide our students with the skills
and knowledge they need to grow, prosper and achieve in the 21st centu-
ry; and
WHEREAS, New York State's schools provide our students with a strong
educational foundation, giving our young people hope for, and access to,
a productive future; and
WHEREAS, All those employed in the education of our state's children
work tirelessly to serve our children and communities with care and
professionalism; and
WHEREAS, New York's schools bring together children, adults, educa-
tors, volunteers, business leaders and elected officials in the common
enterprise of providing a quality education for all students; and
WHEREAS, A strong America is rooted in strong education institutions
and programs meeting the needs of all students and communities; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim April 7 - 13, 2013 as
Education Week in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York.
