LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Dr. Alexander Imich upon the occa-
sion of celebrating his 110th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Alexander Imich was born on February 4, 1903, in Poland;
and
WHEREAS, As a 15 year-old, Alexander Imich joined the Polish forces
fighting the Russians and Bolsheviks; he learned to drive trucks for the
army but went back to school when the Bolshevik forces were pushed back;
and
WHEREAS, Alexander Imich earned a Ph.D. in zoology in 1929, and then
began a career in chemistry; and
WHEREAS, During WWII, Dr. Alexander Imich and his wife, Wela, arrived
in the United States in 1952; and
WHEREAS, In 1986, Dr. Alexander Imich moved to New York City into what
is now the Esplenade on West End Avenue, and has lived there ever since;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Alexander Imich has been interested in parapsychology for
more than 80 years; he has written many papers for journals and edited a
book, INCREDIBLE TALES OF THE PARANORMAL, which was published in 1995;
and
WHEREAS, Fluent in four languages, Dr. Alexander Imich is enormously
engaging and has a real love of life and learning; his eyes still twin-
kle with each new idea, which he often describes as "fascinating,
extraordinary, or illuminating"; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional supercentenarian, with his zest for life,
has inspired and enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved man has enriched the lives of those around him
through his joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which come only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dr. Alexander Imich upon the occasion of celebrating his
110th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Alexander Imich.
