LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Executive Director Philomena Cammuso
upon the occasion of her retirement after many years of distinguished
service to the Seneca Falls Historical Society
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Executive Director Philomena Cammuso upon the occasion of her retirement
after many years of distinguished service to the Seneca Falls Historical
Society; and
WHEREAS, A native of Seneca Falls, New York, Philomena Cammuso gradu-
ated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Elmira, and worked at Geneva
General for 25 years in a variety of managerial positions; and
WHEREAS, After earning her Masters degree in Education from Elmira
College, Philomena Cammuso worked as an Instructor of Nursing and served
at Clifton Springs Hospital in such important roles as Vice-President of
Nursing, Director of Education, Risk Manager, and Corporate Compliance
Officer until her retirement in 2002; and
WHEREAS, Since assuming the role of Acting Director of the Seneca
Falls Historical Society in 2002, Philomena Cammuso has rendered faith-
ful, conscientious and valuable service to the organization, overseeing
the day-to-day operations as well as helping with group tours, special
events, and students; and
WHEREAS, Philomena Cammuso has worked tirelessly throughout her tenure
for the benefit of the Seneca Falls Historical Society, and is known for
her ability to attract new visitors to its grounds; furthermore, she has
served as President of the Board of Directors for the past four years;
and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as Executive Director, this remarkable woman
served with loyalty, honor and distinction, helping the Society stay
relevant as a community resource in changing times; and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Philomena Cammuso was governed by a
keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems,
earning the admiration, esteem and affection of her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, With a sense of civic responsibility, Philomena Cammuso has
given of her time and energies to numerous non-profit organizations;
among her many roles, she has served as President of Birthright of Sene-
ca County, and is a member of the Board of Directors of Kiwanis Club and
the American Heart Association; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of several awards and accolades for her exem-
plary service, Philomena Cammuso was honored with the 2001 Father Beat-
tini Award and the 2002 Woman of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her sisters, Rose and the late
Ann, as well as her nieces, Toni, Lisa and Kimberly, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Executive Director Philomena Cammuso upon the occasion of her
retirement after many years of distinguished service to the Seneca Falls
Historical Society, and to wish her the best in all her future endeav-
ors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Philomena Cammuso.
