LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Rose Scalmassi Ferrara upon the
occasion of her 100th Birthday to be celebrated on January 24, 2015
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Rose
Scalmassi Ferrara upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday to be cele-
brated with a party held in her honor on January 24, 2015, at St.
John's Meadows in Rochester, New York; and
WHEREAS, Rose Scalmassi was born in Seneca Falls, New York, to Peter
and Maria Scalmassi, along with four siblings, Camilla, Josephine, Lena,
and Joseph; and
WHEREAS, On September 18, 1944, Rose married Michael "Mickey" J.
Ferrara at St. Patrick's Church in Seneca Falls, New York; together,
they were the proud parents of four children, Mary F., Jo Ann, Michael
P., and Paul; and
WHEREAS, Rose Ferrara worked as a hairdresser with her sister, Camil-
la, in the first female owned business in Seneca Falls; and
WHEREAS, At the age of 65, Rose Ferrara retired from Seneca Knitting
Mills after many years of distinguished service; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Rose Ferrara was a lifelong member
of St. Patrick's Church, Seneca Falls, New York, and St. Anne's Church,
Rochester, New York, where she volunteered to deliver communion; and
WHEREAS, In 1998, Rose Ferrara moved from Seneca Falls to St. John's
Meadows Senior Living Community where she volunteered her time and ener-
gies to the MEADOWS MONTHLIES and sewing for other residents; one year,
she was named Volunteer of the Year; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Today, she is the loving grandmother of four grandchildren,
Sara, Christina, Courtney, and Alex, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Rose Scalmassi Ferrara upon the occasion of her 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rose Scalmassi Ferrara.
