LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Nicholas A. Roes upon the occasion of
his retirement after 26 years of distinguished service as Executive
Director of New Hope Manor

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed resi-
dents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Nicholas A. Roes upon the occasion of his retirement after 26 years of
distinguished service as Executive Director to New Hope Manor; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas A. Roes earned both his bachelor's degree and his
master's degree from the University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, Connecti-
cut; in 1997, he furthered his education by obtaining his PhD in
Addictions Counseling from Westbrook University; and
WHEREAS, On March 31, 2015, Nicholas A. Roes will officially retire
from his position of Executive Director of New Hope Manor, an all-female
residential substance abuse treatment center in Barryville, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Since 1992, Nicholas A. Roes rendered faithful, conscientious
and valuable service to New Hope Manor, earning the admiration, esteem
and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as Executive Director, Nicholas A. Roes
served with loyalty, honor and distinction, and was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems in his
official acts; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas A. Roes holds many professional credentials, includ-
ing Diplomate, Professional Counseling, International Academy of Behav-
ioral Medicine, Counseling, and Psychotherapy (IABMCP), American
Psychotherapy Association (APA) Diplomate, New York State Credentialed
Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), Internationally Certified
Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ICADC); and
WHEREAS, He also is a member of the American Counseling Association,
the Association for Addiction Professionals of New York, and the Inter-
national Association of Addictions and Offenders Counselors Mensa; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his position at New Hope Manor, Nicholas A.
Roes is a teacher for Brown University's online court program, as well
as an Adjunct Instructor for Marist College, Poughkeepsie, New York; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas A. Roes is also a faculty member of the New York
State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services Bureau of Work-
force Development; he frequently presents workshops and trainings for
addiction professionals; and
WHEREAS, A noted author, Nicholas A. Roes has appeared on hundreds of
radio and television talk shows, and has written six books, and more
than 1,000 articles on a wide range of topics; his magazine column, ROAD
TO RECOVERY, appears in each issue of ADDICTION PROFESSIONAL magazine,
the official publication of NAADAC and many other professional organiza-
tions; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nicholas A. Roes upon the occasion of his retirement after 26
years of distinguished service as Executive Director of New Hope Manor;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nicholas A. Roes.
