LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring State Police Investigator Matthew J.
Stegner upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Super-
intendent's Commendation Award by the New York State Police

WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of community life are cherished values
worthy of safeguarding, and this Legislative Body is moved to honor
those exemplary public servants who devote their lives to preserving and
protecting such values; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Investigator Matthew J. Stegner upon the occasion of his designation as
a recipient of the Superintendent's Commendation Award by the New York
State Police to be celebrated at the 39th Annual Awards Day Ceremony on
Monday, May 11, 2015, in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Investigator Matthew J. Stegner has proudly served as a
member of the New York State Police since 2002; he is currently assigned
to the State Police Machias Station, Troop A, and resides in Orchard
Park, New York; and
WHEREAS, On April 21, 2014, Investigator Matthew J. Stegner received a
report that a 55-year-old woman was missing and possibly suicidal; and
WHEREAS, Reacting swiftly, Investigator Matthew J. Stegner posted a
vulnerable missing persons alert to all local agencies, and contacted
the missing woman's cellular provider to track her location due to
exigent circumstances and concern for her welfare; and
WHEREAS, Investigator Matthew J. Stegner was able to obtain the miss-
ing woman's coordinates by utilizing a mapping program installed on her
phone; he then rushed to this location and discovered the victim's car
parked on a logging trail; a further search of the area led to the woman
being found unconscious nearby; and
WHEREAS, Investigator Matthew J. Stegner tended to the woman who had a
faint pulse after ingesting multiple bottles of prescription drugs; a
call was then placed to the local fire department who extracted the
victim and administered life saving medical attention; she later
regained consciousness and made a full recovery; and
WHEREAS, Through his heroic actions, Investigator Matthew J. Stegner
demonstrated his character and compassion for the welfare of others,
personifying the collective concern of public servants across the commu-
nity of the State of New York who respond when others are in need of
help; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those extraor-
dinary individuals who unselfishly devote their lives to the preserva-
tion of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full
praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Investigator Matthew J. Stegner upon the occasion of his desig-
nation as recipient of the Superintendent's Commendation Award by the
New York State Police; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Investigator Matthew J. Stegner.
